My Story

Let’s Exchange Notes Podcast creator and host, Zalika Adams, is a dreamer, a thinker and always asking “why”. She has always stated that asking “why” leads to understanding. Zalika graduated from Cleveland State University, in 2009, with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences degree. With a double major in Communication Studies and Journalism and Promotional Communication. She can remember communication was important and apparent in her life from an early age. Her mother often challenged her to “look it up in the dictionary” when she didn’t know the spelling of a word. Not too long after college she went into the field of tax, however, she always looked for a challenge within this line of work: from giving presentations to colleagues or coaching the new hires of the team.  This journalistic mindset was forever running in the background of her psyche.

Our Values

Let’s Exchange Notes Podcast is built on the values of communication – vulnerability – integrity.

COMMUNICATION

With the uptick of social media (as we know it today) we have more mediums to communicate than we could ever fathom. Perhaps, this is leading to the breakdown in encoding and decoding messages. We have found that there is a breakdown of the communication complex. The goal is to listen to understand, not to simply respond. This podcast is a safe space for all participants to get to the heart of the issue. This will take place between people across all demographics, ages, races, religion, and creed.

VULNERABILITY

Protection of vulnerability of the speaker is pertinent. The Podcast is quite clear that guests sitting down in front of an audience and speaking on sensitive topics is not an easy feat. The foundation will be to protect the vulnerability of guests. Ensuring while in studio they will not feel attacked or harmed. While there will be some hard questions asked it will be done with class, respect, and integrity.

INTEGRITY

Zalika has made it quite clear that she operates her personal and business life to the upmost integrity standard. Some of her favorite bullet points under the umbrella of integrity are honesty (this starts within), giving credit where credit is due, leading by example, taking responsibility for actions, and helping others. The Podcast will strive to operate at the highest level of integrity.

“I remember the day like it was yesterday, I was laying across my bed talking to [my friend] KP and I simply asked her if unresolved Black boyhood trauma, such as, being made fun of for features beyond his control, can lead into White assimilation? She went on to say yes, but after the conversation I asked myself “Why am I asking a Black woman? This question is for a Black Man to answer.”
